Major HENRY L. RISER 20459062

Major HENRY L. RISER 20459062, US Army Infantry. Husband of Lynelle K. Riser, and son of Effie Garner and Henry Clay Riser. He is also the brother of First Lieutenant WILLIAM T. RISER and Quartermaster 3rd Class ROBERT BOYCE RISER. He was born April 14, 1920, and attended Louisiana State University and Centenary. Entering the Army November 25, 1940, at the age of 20. He went to Camp Blanding, Florida, and to Camp Bowie, Texas, as rifle platoon leader. Completed Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia He was assigned to duty as a rifle company commander at Camp Bowie and as instructor in the IR TC at Camp Wolters, Texas. On September 25, 1942, he went to England where he served at the Assault Training Center as commander of Demonstration Troops. He served at Langford Lodge, Ireland, as Base Defense Officer. He fought as a rifle company commander in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Germany and was in combat in the Campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, and Germany. He has the Silver Star Medal (SSM) for gallantry, the European Theater (ETO) Ribbon with four stars, the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), the American Defense Service and American Theater Ribbons, the Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal (PHM) received February 10, 1945, at Prum, Germany.
