Quartermaster 3rd Class ROBERT BOYCE RISER
Quartermaster 3rd Class ROBERT BOYCE RISER, US Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Riser. He is also the brother of First Lieutenant WILLIAM T. RISER and Major HENRY L. RISER. He was born June 18, 1924, and attended Fair Park High School prior to entering the U. S. Naval Reserve on June 28, 1943, at the age of 19. He went to the U. S. Naval Training Station at San Diego, California, and the Receiving Station at San Francisco. He was assigned to duty with the USS APC 108 and the USS Haines AP D 84. On September 21, 1943, he embarked for Pearl Harbor and went from there to serve in the South Pacific, Central Pacific, and Western Pacific Areas (PTO). Quartermaster Third Class Riser was in combat in the Invasion of Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands. He spent thirty-one months of his military service overseas. He was discharged at the Naval Air Station in New Orleans.
