Staff Sergeant Jose M. Hernandez 38578671, United States Army. He served in 3rd Platoon Company G, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division. On April 4, 1945, in the vicinity of Untergriesheim / Buchhof, Germany. Sergeant Hernandez left cover to move against a machine gun nest. In spite of falling shells and concentrated small arms fire, Sergeant Hernandez rushed the machine gun nest, destroyed the weapon, and killed the enemy gunners. He earned the Silver Star Medal for this action. During World War Two he also served in Company D, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division and Company H, 253d Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medals (BSM), the Purple Heart Medal, The American Theater of operations, the European Theater of Operations Medal ETO with 2 battle star, and the World War Two Victory Medal.
