Sergeant JOHN HOWARD PECK, US Army Air Corp

Sergeant JOHN HOWARD PECK, US Army Air Corp. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Roland Peck, of 201 Albany Avenue, Shreveport. He was born February 11, 1925, and attended Broadmoor and Byrd High Schools, entering the Army Air Forces July 19, 1943, at the age of 18. He received aviation cadet training at Amarillo Army Air Base, Texas, and radio operator-mechanic training at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He then went to Yuma Army Air Base, Arizona, for gunnery (air and ground) and Barksdale Field for combat crew advanced training (B-26), serving at Savannah, Georgia, and West Palm Beach, Florida. On December 7, 1944, Sergeant Peck embarked for the European Theater (ETO) where he served in England and France. He also served in Puerto Rico, British Guinea, Brazil, Ascension Island, Liberia, Senegal, and Morocco, North Africa. He went into combat in France (radio operator-gunner and bombardier-navigator), Belgium (bombardier-navigator, B-26), and in Germany in the same capacity. He was in action in the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe and has the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the European Theater Ribbon (three stars), the Presidential Unit Citation (PUC) Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, Victory, and Good Conduct Medals, the “caterpillar” for bailing out over enemy territory and the “boot” for escaping from enemy territory. He is also the brother of Chief Warrant Officer CHARLES ROLAND PECK, Warrant Officer HARRY ANTHONY PECK, and EDWARD MELVILLE PECK, and ROBERT M. PECK
