Ship’s Cook, First Class Douglas Lester Sorenson 3687232 US Navy. He was born on March 28, 1917 in Malmo, Sweden. He was the son of Gustav Sorenson and Esther Sorenson. He was also the brother of Oscar F Sorenson, Hugo Sorenson, and George Sorenson. The Family immigrated to the United States in 1921, and lived in Salt Lake City Utah. Douglas graduated from Eastonia East High School High School in 1936. He joined the US Navy on January 3, 1942, at the age of 24. At the time he enlisted he was 6 foot 1 inch he had brown hair and blue Eyes. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations (PTO) aboard the USS Mississippi BB-41 from 1942 until the end of the war. His brother George also served on the USS Mississippi with him. After the war ended the USS Mississippi went back to the US and Douglas serving on the General George O. Squier AP-130 which was a Troop Transport. He returned to the United States on November 8, 1947, after more than 5 years of overseas service he was awarded the American Theater of operations medal, The Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.
