Sergeant Joseph T. Underwood 34918546 DOW US Army. He was born on November 19, 1925. He was the son of Eugene Underwood and Mary L Underwood, and the brother of Bratie Underwood of Box 125 Russellville Alabama. Sergeant Joseph T. Underwood enlisted on January 18, 1944 at the age of 18. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 11 inches weighed 153 pounds had brown hair and hazel eyes. He was inducted in to the army at Fort McClellan Alabama.  He served in M Company, 255th Infantry Regiment and was transferred to L Company255th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division. He was wounded in Action on February 17, 1945 in the vicinity of Woelfing France. His wounds were Shell fragment right arm and chest and penetrating wounds of chest and temple. He died of these wounds on February 19, 1945, at the age of 19. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the American Theater of Operations Medal, the European Theater of Operations Medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.
