Technician fourth grade JAMES ALBERT SPORTER 34028779, U. S. Army. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Sporter of Georgetown. He was born May 2, 1917, and attended Georgetown Junior High School and Selma High School. He was a mechanic prior to entering the Army on March 15, 1941, at the age of 23. He was assigned for training to Camp Hulen. Texas, and Camp Haan, California, serving with the West Coast Defenses. On December 23, 1943, he embarked for the European Theater of Operations (ETO) and served in England, France, Belgium, and Holland, as a mechanic. He was in combat in Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland, and has the American Defense Service Medal, the American Theater of Operations Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and World War Two Victory Medal. He was discharged at Camp Shelby on November 20, 1945. He is also the brother of PHILIP SPORTER, JR. and WILLIAM WOODROW SPORTER.
