PHILIP SPORTER, JR. 2750956 United States Navy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Sporter of Georgetown. He was born September 23, 1926, and attended Georgetown High School, and Selma High School. He was a storekeeper at Alexandria Army Air Base. Entering the U. S. Navy January 15, 1944, at the age of 17. He went to San Diego, California, for boot training at the U. S. Naval Training Station. He attended electrician school there and was assigned to the USS Algol AKA 54, embarking October 4, 1944, for the Marshall Iglands. He served all his sea duty with the USS Algol assigned to an amphibious group. He was in combat in the Philippines and on Okinawa and has the Asiatic Pacific Theater (PTO) Ribbon with three bronze campaign stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze campaign stars, the American Theater of Operations Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. He is also the brother of Technician fourth grade JAMES ALBERT SPORTER, and WILLIAM WOODROW SPORTER.
