T/ Sergeant FORT A. FIELDS 14023074, U. S. Army. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex M. Fields, Shreveport Louisiana. He is the brother of Private First Class WILLIAM MURRAY EVANS, Private First Class WILLIAM W. FIELDS, Private First Class TROY L. EVANS and Private First Class NEWELL L. EVANS. He was born June 4, 1922, and was educated at East Point School. He was a farmer prior to induction September 25, 1940, at Fort McClellan at the age of 18, and trained at Fort Benning, Camp Gordon, Fort Jackson, Camp Johnston, and Fort Dix, as infantryman. He embarked for overseas service December 3, 1943, as an infantryman and ranger man, and landed in Cherbourg, Normandy, with the invasion forces. He was killed in action on Normandy Beach June 7, 1944 at the age of 24. He served in 22nd Infantry Regiment  4th Infantry Division. He received the European Theater of Operations (ETO) Ribbon with one Battle Star for his part in the Battle of Normandy, and the Purple Heart Medal (PHM), awarded posthumously.
