Private First Class David Abrams 20848063 US Army. He was born on March 15, 1922 or 1923 or 1924, in Kane Pennsylvania, He was the son of Charles Abe Abrams and Katherine Brateman Abrams.

Abrams entered the US Army on November 16, 1940 from the Texas National Guard at the age of 16. He transferred into E Company 255th Infantry, 63rd Infantry Divisionon March 23, 1944 from the 56th Cavalry Brigade on Aug 14, 1944 he transferred to L Company 254th Infantry 63rd Infantry Division on Aug 22, 1944 he transferred to the Headquarters Battery861st Field Artillery battalion63rd Infantry Division. He would continue to serve in Headquarters Battery for the remainder of the war. He serve in an Forward Observer team under the command of Captain Richard Dooley attached to 2nd Battalion HQ Company 253rd Infantry.

On April 6, 1945 when 2nd Bn HQ Company was in Buchhof when the 17th SS launched a counter attack and made their way into the town. Private David Abrams was serving on the Forward Observer team and attached to Second Battalion, 253rd Infantry RegimentTo provide radio communication for an artillery liaison officer Captain Richard Dooley, Private Abrams drove a vehicle over a road covered by enemy machine gun fire. After completing his mission he voluntarily evacuated several wounded men in his vehicle under enemy fire and saved the lives of the wounded.

On Aug. 2, 1945 he transferred to the 391st Armd FA BN. He was discharged on November 5, 1945. At the time of his discharge he was 5 foot 10 inches tall weighed 120 pounds had brown hair and brown eyes. He reenlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War. He was awarded The Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the American Defense Medalthe American Campaign Medalthe European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medalthe World War II Victory Medalthe Army of Occupation Medal (Germany)the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and many other awards. He then married Rachel Weinberg on April 20, 1963, in Harris County, Texas. He died on December 17, 2009, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 85, and was buried there.

 

His enlistment records say he was born in 1922, his draft card from 1945 says he was born in 1923, his gravestone says 1924. So he probably lied about his age to join the Texas National Guard.
