T/5 Wayne Allen Stamm, 36771374
Technician 5th Grade T/5 Wayne Allen Stamm, 36771374 US Army. He was born on June 5, 1924 in McConnell, Illinois the son of Esther and Elmer Stamm. He graduated from Winslow High School in 1942. He entered the Army Air Corp in 1943, around the age of 19. After graduating from Air Gunner School where he trained to be a ball turret gunner on a B-24, he was transferred to the infantry. In February 1945 he entered Second Platoon in John Crews Squad, Company F, 253rd Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of Buchhof and Stine, and would have been one of the twenty-three uninjured men in platoon after Sgt. Crews earned his Medal of Honor. On April 17, 1945 T/5 Stamm was transferred to B Company, 253rd Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division. With B Company he took part in liberation one of the Landsberg Concentration Camp.
He was Awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, The American Theater of operations, the European Theater of Operations Medal ETO with 2 battle star, the World War Two Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, Air Gunner Wings, and the Presidential Unit Citation. After the war he married Darlyne Schumacher, he earned a B.A. degree in Education from University of Dubuque. He also earned a Ph.D. in Educational Administration, he worked for the Department of Public Instruction where he remained until his retirement in 1988. He died on September 25, 2011, at the age of 87.
