JAMES ROBERT STEPHENSON

JAMES ROBERT STEPHENSON US Navy. Husband of Ann Hyde Stephenson of Cotton Valley and son of Estelle Coyle and Tom F. Stephenson. He is also the brother of Seaman First Class, THOMAS GREER STEPHENSON. He was born September 24, 1921, and graduated from Byrd High School in 1940. Entering the U. S. Naval Reserve April 3, 1942, at the age of 20. He went to San Diego, California, for training at the U. S. Naval Training Station. In July, 1942, he embarked for Pearl Harbor as carpenter’s mate aboard the USS Allen, for twenty-two months he served in the South Pacific Area (PTO), then was assigned to Marcus Island and served for one year at the Naval installations there. He was next assigned to duty on the USS General J. C. Breckinridge with which he had served for a year and continued to serve after the cessation of hostilities, in the capacity of Carpenter’s Mate, Second Class.
