Private First Class ALBERT LISTER SMITH

Private First Class ALBERT LISTER SMITH, U. S. Army. Brother of Master Sergeant JAMES BAKER SMITH. Husband of Clothilde Cobb Smith, of 3504 Lillian St., Shreveport, Louisiana, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith of Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born September 22, 1925, and attended Greenwood High School. He was in the petroleum products business prior to his induction in the Field Artillery on February 21, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 18. He received basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and went to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, as fuel and lubricant clerk for the 397th Field Artillery Battalion. On February 5, 1945, he embarked for LeHavre. France, and served in France as a truck operator delivering fuel to M-4 and M-7 tanks. He served in Germany and Czechoslovakia in the same capacity. He also served as clerk-typist in United States Forces European Theater of Operations (ETO) Headquarters in Germany. He was in combat in Central Europe, and has the European African Middle Eastern Theater Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged May 19, 1946, at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.
