T/3 Charles Frederick Shipman 35171091

T/3 Charles Frederick Shipman 35171091 US Army. He was born on February 12, 1920, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Louis William Charles Shipman and Clara Annmarie Uebele Shipman. He grew up in Center, and Indianapolis, Indiana, and he graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1939. He was drafted into the US Army on October 28, 1941, at the age of 21. At the time of his enlistment he was 6 foot 3 inches tall weighed 161 pounds had Brown eyes and blonde hair. At the time of his enlistment he was working as a Professional Ball-Player for the Tucson Baseball Club in Tucson Arizona. He served in combat with the 736th ordinance light maintenance company, 36th Infantry Division. On July 1, 1945 he was transferred into the 563rd Signal Company63rd Infantry Division. He spent 30 months in the ETO. He married Betty Jo Totten on December 29, 1945, in Marion County, Indiana. He moved to Fort Wayne to play baseball on the semi-pro G.E. team. After baseball he worked as a tool maker with GE for 28 years, retiring in 1982. He died on January 9, 2014, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the age of 93. He is a member of the  Fort Wayne Baseball Hall of Fame.
