Coxswain Melvin Luke Rohr US Navy

Coxswain Melvin Luke Rohr US Navy. Born 9 January 1927 in Ness City, Kansas. Attended Denver primary and high schools and was a student prior to entering service on 27 January 1944, at the age of 17. Trained at Farragut, Idaho, and San Diego; and served at Pearl Harbor and aboard the submarine tenders USS APOLLO, USS PROTEUS, and USS BUSHNELL. Aboard the USS TRIGGER (SS-237) on a 60-day patrol in the Philippines area, his ship sank an enemy tanker and a scout ship. He also served aboard the USS SEAFOX. Coxswain Rohr was honorably discharged on 8 May 1946, and was awarded the American Theater Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area (PTO) Ribbon, Silver Submarine with Star, and the World War Two Victory Medal. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rohr of Denver.
