Sergeant ALVIN RIGDON, KIA NBD 06971059
Sergeant ALVIN RIGDON, KIA 06971059 US Army Air Corps. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie M. Rigdon, of Haynesville. He was born November 12, 1919, and attended Haynesville High School, entering military service shortly after his graduation. He was inducted into the Army Air Forces November 7, 1939, at the age of 19. He served at Chanute Field, Rantoul, Illinois, and Savannah Army Air Base, Savannah, Georgia. In October, 1941, he embarked for the Philippine Islands (PTO) where he served through the defense campaign at Corregidor. He was at Osayka Prison Camp in Japan. Upon his liberation he was placed on board a plane for the United States. He was reported killed when the plane went down between Okinawa and Formosa enrooted to Manila on September 10, 1945, at the age of 25. Few details of his internment and death were learned. He is also the brother of Gunner’s Mate Third Class RAYMOND CECIL WILSON, and Sergeant WILLIE ODELLE RIGDON.
