Radioman, Third Class HERBERT CHARLES RHOADES

Radioman, Third Class HERBERT CHARLES RHOADES, United States Navy (R) Son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leslie Rhoades, Shreveport. Brother of Aerographer’s Mater, Second Class PHYLLIS EVELYN RHOADES (WAVE) and First Lieutenant FRANK LESLIE RHOADES, JR. He was born June 13, 1926, and attended Creswell School Byrd High School prior to enlisting in the U. S. Naval Reserve November 8, 1943 at the age of 17. From the U. S. Naval Training Station, San Diego, he went to the Amphibious Training Base at Coronado and San Diego, and was assigned to sea duty aboard the USS Geneva APA 86. On May 19, 1945, he embarked for the Pacific Theater (PTO) and participated in the landing of occupation troops at Jinsen, Korea. On October 4, 1945, he participated in the landing of occupation troops at Taku, China. He served in the removal of European repatriates from TSingtao, China, to Hong Kong, and in the landing of Chinese National Troops at Chinawangtao, China. He returned to the States bringing troops from the Philippine Islands, then made another voyage to Pearl Harbor transporting troops back to the States. He has the Asiatic- Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) Ribbon, the American Defense Service Ribbon, and the World War Two Victory Medal. Discharged May 12, 1946.
