Fireman Second Class RICHARD KING POWELL, JR
Fireman Second Class RICHARD KING POWELL, JR., US Navy R. Brother of Sergeant THEODORE TRAVIS POWELL KIA, and Tec/ Sergeant KENNETH JACKSON POWELL. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard King Powell, he was born February 24, 1927, and is a graduate of Tioga High School. He was employed by Pearce Motor Company, Alexandria, prior to his induction in the U. S. Naval Reserve on February 23, 1945 at the age of 17. He went to the U. S. N. Training Station at San Diego, California, for recruit training and for four weeks of Firemen’s School, then after a furlough reported back to San Diego where he transferred to Treasure Island, San Francisco, on June 15, 1945, for assignment to duty. He was stationed on the USS Keyes (787) Detail. He was continuing to serve with the U. S. Navy as of 1946.
