Tec/ Sergeant KENNETH JACKSON POWELL 06921338, US Army Air Forces. Brother of Sergeant THEODORE TRAVIS POWELL KIA, and Fireman Second Class RICHARD KING POWELL, JR. Husband of Marie Louise Powell, and father of Kenneth David Powell. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard King Powell, he was born in 1915. He attended Pineville and Tioga High Schools and was an automotive mechanic prior to entering the Army Air Forces September 4, 1942 around the age of 27. He served at Blytheville Army Air Field, Arkansas, as mechanic and crew chief on training planes, and at Seymour Johnson Field, Goldsboro, North Carolina, as student mechanic, completing his training at Douglas Aircraft, Long Beach, California. He went to Karachi, India (CBI), November 13, 1943, as aerial engineer and served at Calcutta and Lalaghat, at Tamu and other Burmese fields operating from Asanol, India. He was in combat in the Campaign of India Burma, Central Burma, and China, and has the Air Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Asiatic Pacific (PTO) Ribbon with three bronze campaign stars, and Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged September 25, 1945.
