Technician Fifth Grade THOMAS C. POINDEXTER 34154326, U. S. Army. He served with Anti-Aircraft Artillery as radio and searchlight operator. He was born August 8, 1917, and is the son of Mrs. R. N. Poindexter, of 311 Gladstone Blvd., Shreveport. After attending schools in Shreveport Louisiana he was in oil well supply until his induction November 26, 1941, at the age of 24. After basic training at Fort Eustis, Virginia, he was stationed in the New York Area, then on November 1, 1942, sailed for Casablanca. In French Morocco he served as radio operator with a searchlight section in Algeria. Transferred to Tunisia, then Italy, he took part in the Campaigns of Naples-Foggia, Rome Arno, the North Appenines, and the PO Valley. In September, 1944, he transferred from the 337th AAA Battalion to the 185th Combat Engineer Battalion and served with them in Italy, in the Rome-Arno, Appenines, and PO campaigns. His decorations include the American Defense Ribbon, the European Theater (ETO) and Mediterranean Theater of Operations Ribbons, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged August 29, 1945, at Camp Shelby.
