Private First Class JOHN Odell PENNELL 34258508 United states Army. He was born on May 11, 1918, in Taylorsville Alexander, North Carolina. He was the son of Florence Minerva Thomas Pennell, and Grover Washington Pennell. He had five brothers and two sisters. His brothers were Private First Class Connie Mack Pennell 34967769 KIA, Jay Wilson Pennell, Fred Ray Pennell, Paul Smith Pennell his sisters were Mary Amanda Pennell St Clair and Nell Rose Pennell. Before the war he lived at Route #2, Taylorsville, North Carolina. He entered the service on April 7, 1942, at the age of 23. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 8 inches tall weighed 150 pounds had green eyes and black hair. He went overseas on August 6, 1942 and served in the Tunisia; French- Morocco Theatre of Operations He returned to the United States on May 14, 1944. He was discharged at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia on October 17, 1945. He had served in the US Army for 3 years, 6 months and 10 days. He had served overseas for 1 year 9 months and 8 days. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with 2 Bronze Service Stars; the Good Conduct Medal; and 3 Overseas Service Bars. He married Frances Van Beulah Wike on December 21, 1946, in Alexander, North Carolina. They had six children during their marriage. His occupation after the war was Farmer. He died on August 20, 2003, in Taylorsville, North Carolina, at the age of 85, and was buried there.
