Torpedoman’s Mate Second Class, Paul D,  Merritt 8390798, KIA US Navy. He was born on July 24, 1924 the son of Roy Dee Merritt, and Lucy Merritt of 347 Ukrane St., Dallas, Texas. At the time of his enlistment he was working at Mercantile National Bank and he was 6 foot tall weighed 185 pounds had blue eyes and brown hair. On April 6, 1945 off of Okinawa Ryukyus Islands, he was Killed in Action when a kamikaze struck the USS Newcomb DD-586. He was awarded the  Purple Heart Medal,the Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations Medal (PTO), The American Theater of operations Medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.
