Private CHARLES EUGENE MCMANUS

Private CHARLES EUGENE MCMANUS, U. S. Army. Son of Mrs. Gertrude McManus of 3011 Frederick street, Shreveport Louisiana. He attended Park View and Fair Park schools and Shreveport Trades school. He was an electrician at Shreveport Armature Works prior to his induction in the Corps of Engineers on July 29, 1943, at Camp Beauregard. Assigned to Camp Adair, Oregon, for combat engineer training, he went to Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia, assigned to a combat team and task force attached to the 363rd Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division (Powder River). His unit was the 316th Combat Engineers Battalion. On April 12, 1944, he embarked for North Africa and served in the amphibious operation staged at Bagnoli, Italy, and attacking north of Rome at Civitavecchia, moving north to Leghorn which fell July 18, 1944. He fought at Pisa with Task Force Williamson, from the Arno River to the Gothic Line, and north to the PO and Trieste. He has the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations (ETO) Ribbon with four Bronze Stars for Leghorn, the Arno River, the Gothic Line and the PO Valley. He has the Victory Medal, Good Conduct medal, American Theater medal and Allied Armies Ribbons.
