He entered the US Army on August 7, 1942, around the age of 22. He trained at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. He served in ETO with the 92nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, The American Theater of operations, the European Theater of Operations Medal ETO, the World War Two Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal.
