Private, HEATH Lee DUNCAN, service number 14147890 United States Army killed in action. He was born on December 6, 1923, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, the son of L.M. Duncan and Odess Duncan. He entered the Army on April 28, 1943, at the age of 19. After 2 months’ training at Camp Croft, South Carolina, and Fort Meade, Md., he was sent overseas. He served in Company K30th Infantry Regiment3rd Infantry Division. He was killed in action on February 7, 1944 in Italy, at the age of 20. He received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (ETO), Purple Heart Medal (PHM), the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. His body was returned to the United States in 1948.
