Private First Class ROBERT Wesley Driftmyer 35349240 US Army KIA. He was born on January 27, 1922, in Madison, Ohio. He was the son of Charles Wesley Driftmyer Jesse Olive SMITH, he lived in Bradner Ohio. He entered the service on December 5, 1942. He trained at Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi; Fort Dix, New Jersey. He served in Headquarters Company 338th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division. He embarked on December 27, 1943, for the North African Theatre of operations. He earned a Bronze Star Medal for valor on May 11 – 13, 1944 and his first Purple Heart Medal in Italy. He was Killed in Action on October 7, 1944, in Montepiano, Prato, Italy, at the age of 22, after 22 months of service. He was buried in Gibsonburg, Ohio. He was awarded the the Bronze Stare Medal with oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, The American Theater of operations Medal, The European African Middle Eastern Theater of operations Medal, the World War Two Victory Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
