Soundman, Third Class PHILLIP S. COPLEY JR. 5601625 (KIA), U. S. Navy. Born March 15, 1924. Entered service September, 1942, at the age of 18. He served at Great Lakes, Ill.; Pacific (PTO). Killed in action January 9, 1945, while serving aboard the USS Jenkins DD-447. Awarded the Purple Heart (PHM), Presidential Citation (PUC), eight Battle Stars. Attended Warfield H. S. Methodist. Son of Mr. and Mrs. P. S. Copley. He is the brother of MoMM3/c JOHN C. COPLEY, SoM3/c CHARLES EDWARD COPLEY, Private First Class LILLIAN COPLEY (WAC), of, Warfield, Kentucky. He is also the brother in law of Master Sergeant BERNARD B. BRAGG. His body was returned to Kentucky in 1949.
