Private First Class George W. Critchfield

 

Private First Class George W. Critchfield USMC. Born April 1923 in Imperial, Nebraska. Attended schools in Kit Carson County, and entered Marine Corps on 20 August 1943 at the age of 20, after 3 years in National Guards. Trained at Camp Elliott, California, and served overseas with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He took part in the invasion of Guam, and was wounded in action on 26 July 1944. Honorably discharged in 1946, he holds the Purple Heart (PHM), American Defense, Asiatic Pacific (PTO) with Battle Star, Good Conduct and Victory Medals. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Critchfield of Burlington. He is the brother of Sergeant Jack L. Critchfield, Corporal Max G. Critchfieldand Private John Junior Critchfield.
