T/4 Irving I. Rimer 16105661
Technician fourth Grade T/4 Irving Israel Rimer 16105661 US Army. He was born on May 25, 1921, he was the son of (Chaim) David Rimer and Sarah Eva Gilman. He was the Class of 1939 Salutatorian at Salem High School in Salem Massachusetts. At the time of his enlistment he was attending the University of Michigan in Auburn, Michigan. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 11 inches tall weighed 155 pounds had brown eyes and Black Hair. He entered the US Army on Feb 25, 1943 at the age of 21. He entered H Company, 253rd Infantry regiment, 63rd Infantry Division on July 20 1944, at Camp Van Dorn Mississippi. On October 26, 1944 he was transferred to Medical Detachment, 253rd Infantry regiment, 63rd Infantry Division. He would serve in this unit for the remainder of his time with the 63rd Division being attached to line companies as a medic during combat. He earned the Silver Star Medal on Feb 17, 1945. He was also Wounded in Action on March 15, 1945. On Aug. 31, 1945 he was transferred to the 100th Infantry Division. He earned the Combat Medic Badge, the Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medals (BSM), the Purple Heart Medal, The American Theater of operations, the European Theater of Operations Medal and the World War Two Victory Medal.
After the war he had three daughters with Joan Engel. He died on October 14, 2012, at the age of 91, and was buried in Bourne, Massachusetts.
