Technical Sergeant George Charles Budai 36192021 US Army. He was born August 29, 1919 in Chicago Illinois. He was the son of Frank Budai and Theresa Sabo Budai. In 1930 he was living in Ravenna, Michigan. In 1940 he was living in Coopersville, Michigan. He entered the US Army on August 25, 1942 in Kalamazoo Michigan at the age of 22. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 feet 5 and one half inches tall weighed 135 pounds had black hair and brown eyes. He served for 34 months overseas and had 497 days of combat with 4th Platoon, Company A, 128th Infantry Regiment, 32d Infantry Division.
He was wounded in action in Buna, New Guinea in July 1944 and he was discharged from the hospital in August 1944. He also earned his Silver Star Medal in 1944.He earned the Distinguished Service Cross on May 8, 1945, for intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify.
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and Silver Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Bronze Star Medal (BSM), The American Theater of operations Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations Medal with 3 Battle stars, Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), Good Conduct Medal, World War Two Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 battle star, 5 Overseas Service Bars, 1 Service Stripe. He was discharged November 25, 1945. He was married to Elizabeth Irene “Bettye” Veselits Budai on November 30, 1948 in Muskegon. He died on February 23 2002 in Muskegon Michigan, he was Interred at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon Michigan.
