Private First Class, FRANK R. HELMS 14049520 KIA US Army. He was born September 29, 1923, the son of Bessie M Knight, and Robert W Helms of Kannapolis. He entered the US Army on June 5, 1941, at the age of 18, he served in the army 4 years before being killed in action on April 2, 1945 in Germany, at the age of 21. He spent over 2 years in Panama with K Battery 82nd Coast Artillery before he was sent to the European Theater. He served in G Company, 28 Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division. The European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (ETO), The American Theater of operations medal, the American Defense Medal, the Purple Heart Medal (PHM), Bronzr Star Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal were awarded to him.
