Metalsmith WILLIAM MORELAND TIERCE

Metalsmith WILLIAM MORELAND TIERCE, US Navy. Brother of Lieutenant (jg) GILBERT LEE TIERCE, JR. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Lee Tierce of, 216 Vine Street, Shreveport Louisiana. He was born August 18, 1924, and attended Byrd High School, Shreveport, working as a welder prior to his induction in the U. S. Navy March 18, 1943, in Shreveport at the age of 18. He was first assigned to the U. S. Naval Training Station, San Diego, California, then to the receiving station, Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, Washington. On November 8, 1943, he embarked for Adak, Alaska, on his first voyage. He served with the USS Charleston in the Aleutian Islands and in the Chinese Theater of Operations (CIB) (PTO). He was honorably discharged March 28, 1946, at New Orleans after more than three years of unselfish service to his country with the United States Navy.
