Major JAMES C. Rives, US Army

Major JAMES C. Rives, US Army. Brother of Sergeant ERNEST E. Rives. Husband of Mrs. Emily M. Rives, Riverdale Apartments, Baltimore, Maryland, and son of Mrs. Etta J. Rives, Vivian. He attended Vivian High School and Louisiana State University prior to entering the Corps of Engineers June 12, 1941, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, after which he went overseas. He served at Camp Gordon, Georgia, with the 1698th Engineer (Combat) Battalion and also on his return from overseas served at Headquarters Second Army (Engineer Section, Engineer Personnel Officer) at Memphis, Tennessee, and Baltimore, Maryland. On July 26, 1941, Major Rives went to the Panama Canal Department as assistant to Air Warning Service construction chief, Department Engineer, PCD, and as assistant executive officer, Panama Engineer Division, Caribbean Defense Command. He served as field construction officer and assistant post engineer, Guatemala City Air Base, San Jos Air Base, and Puerto Barrios, Guatema Louisiana. He went to the European Theater (ETO) with the 1698th Engineer (Combat) Battalion as its commanding officer and executive officer in the Rhineland and Central Europe serving overseas for 44 months in all. He has the American Defense Ribbon (one star), American Theater, ETO Ribbon (two stars), and Victory Ribbon.
