Colonel Harry Edward Werner 0-407582
Colonel Harry Edward Werner O-407582 US Army. He was born April 6, 1905; the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Werner, of Dallas. He marred Ona Katherine Thomas Werner on May 27, 1933 in Bryan, Oklahoma, they lived in Grand Prairie Texas. He Served in the Texas National Guard as a Non Commissioned Officer NCO. He volunteered for Army service on November 18, 1940, and was Commissioned a 2nd Lt. He was assigned to HQ Troop, 112th Cavalry and G Troop, 112th Cavalry, and trained at Fort Bliss and Fort Clark. From July, 1942, to April, 1945, he served overseas in the South and Southwest Pacific, on the islands of Woodlark, New Britain, New Caledonia, New Guinea, and Leyte. In April, 1944, he was wounded in action in the battle of Aitape, New Guinea. He served as the Last Military Commander of Dallas Love Field Airport before it was transited back to Civilian Control. In 1953 he was a full bird Colonel, he was5 foot 11 1/2 inches tall and weighed 130 pounds had Brown hair and Blue eyes. He remained in the US Army until he retired June 3, 1960 at the age of 55. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, The Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, American Defense Medal, The American Theater of operations Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations with 4 Stars and 1 Arrowhead, World War Two Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He died on March 30, 1978, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 72.
