Lieutenant (jg) ELBERT CLETIS WEEKS
Lieutenant (jg) ELBERT CLETIS WEEKS, US Navy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Wesley Weeks, Route 3, Natchitoches. He was born December 26, 1922, and attended Natchitoches High School. On September 16, 1942, at the age of 19, he entered the U. S. Naval Air Corps at New Orleans. He served as an aviation cadet at Athens, Georgia; Hutchinson, Kansas; Pensacola, Florida, and Deland, Florida, (operational training). On July 17, 1944, he embarked for the Pacific Area and served as a pilot in Hawaii, the Admiralty Islands, Guam, and with the carrier USS Essex. He was in combat in the Campaigns of Okinawa and Iwo Jima, the campaign against the Japanese Fleet in the East China Seas, and the Japanese Home Islands. He has the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), the Air Medal with four bronze campaign stars, the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) Ribbon with three campaign stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star.
