Seaman 1st Class JOHN ROUTH WARE,

Seaman 1st Class JOHN ROUTH WARE, US Coast Guard R. Son of Mrs. Muriel Ware, 712 Delaware Street, Shreveport Louisiana. He was born March 22, 1926, and attended South Highland School, Byrd High School, and St. John’s School. He entered the United States Coast Guard October 26, 1943, at the age of 17 in Shreveport and attended boot camp at St. Augustine, Florida. He was assigned to the Receiving Station at Ellis Island, New York, as a watch stander and at the Receiving Station on Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. On May 2, 1944, he embarked for Glasgow, Scotland, and served in England, France (PTO), and the Invasion of Normandy Beach in which he took part in the amphibious assault on LST 16. With the same craft he served in the Philippines and in the occupation of Japan (PTO). After serving in both hemispheres he was granted his honorable discharge March 18, 1946, at New Orleans Louisiana.
