Colonel JOHN TAYLOR WARD KIA
Colonel JOHN TAYLOR WARD KIA, U. S. Army. Son of Mrs. Grace Ward, Shreveport Louisiana. Brother of Captain BENJAMIN NEEDHAM WARD. He was born January 8, 1900, and is a graduate of West Point, United States Military Academy. He entered the service in June, 1920, at the age of 20. He served at numerous camps, among them being: Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; and Camp Callan, California. On November l, 1941, he was sent to organize and command a Quartermaster Depot at Gua Gua, North of Mani La Participating in the Philippine campaign (PTO), he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal (PHM) in February, 1942, for wounds received. On April 11, 1942, he was killed by bayonet while on the famous Death March to prison camp at the age of 42. He is the husband of Betty King Ward, and John Taylor Jr. is his son.
