Private First Class, CLYDE Russell UPRIGHT, 34432902 US Army KIA. He was born on August 6, 1921, the son of Marshall L. Upright and Essie C Upright of Kannapolis, North Carolina. He entered the service on September 26, 1942 at the age of 21. He left for foreign theaters in January 1944. He served in the 120th Infantry Regiment 30th Infantry Division. After fighting through France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, he was killed in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge on December 25, 1944, at the age of 23. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (BSM), Purple Heart Medal (PHM) European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (ETO), Combat Infantry Badge (CIB)and the World War Two Victory Medal.
