MABRY ARMISTER TERRY

MABRY ARMISTER TERRY POW United States Marine Corps. Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Martin Terry, Vivian. He was born October 22, 1915, and attended Vivian High School. He was an oil field employee prior to entering the service March 27, 1937, in New Orleans, Louisiana. From the Marine Corps Base, San Diego, California, he was assigned to a Marine detachment with the U. S. S. Idaho. He was then with a U. S. M. C. detachment on the U. S. S. New Mexico. He served with the First Defense Battalion at San Diego, on Palmyra Island, and on Wake Island, where he was stationed after going overseas to Hawaii February 15, 1941. He fought in the Battle for Wake Island, and has the Asiatic Pacific Campaign (PTO) Ribbon and the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal. He also received a Presidential Unit Citation (PUC). He was a prisoner of war (POW) from December 23, 1941, to September 6, 1945. He spent nineteen months in Japanese prison camps in China and was taken to Osaka, Japan, August 20, 1943. He was moved to Naoetsu, Japan, May 15, 1945, and remained there until he was liberated and taken to Tokyo September 6, 1945. He is remained in the service after the war.
