Staff Sergeant WILLIAM EARL STONECIPHER 34070491, US Army. He is he son of Mr. and Mrs. George Clawson Stonecipher of Haynesville. He was born July 4, 1918, and attended Haynesville High School. He was an employee of the Louisiana State Highway Department prior to his induction February 21, 1941, at Camp Livingston, at the age of 22. He served with the Coast Artillery Corps at Fort Barrancas, Florida, where he received training, then became part of a cadre training recruits for a new unit. He was Chief of Range Section in a battery of 155-millimeter coastal defense guns. He served at Port Eads, Louisiana, in 75 millimeter and 155-millimeter battery in coastal defense against submarines along the industrial areas of the Gulf Coast area. He served at Pascagoula, Mississippi, with the 50th Coast Artillery Battalion which shipped overseas, training replacements, then went to Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, for reassignment. He went to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, with the Army Service Forces to Light Artillery School and as Artillery Instructor, serving in this capacity for the remainder of his military service. He has the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and American Theater Ribbon, and Victory Medal, and was honorably discharged December 5, 1945. He is also the brother of Lieutenant MORRIS WADE STONECIPHER, Private REILLY BUTHAY STONECIPHER, Staff Sergeant DARNELL Evon STONECIPHER, and Shipfitter, Second Class R. L. STONECIPHER.
