Reilly B Stonecipher

Private REILLY BUTHAY STONECIPHER, United States Army. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Clawson Stonecipher of Haynesville Louisiana. He was killed in action while fighting in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations on February 20, 1944, at the age of 28. He was born November 8, 1915, and was a graduate of Haynesville High School. He worked in the Maintenance Department, at Louisiana State University (LSU), for four years prior to entering the Army in the Armored corps on May 16, 1942, at Camp Livingston, at the age of 26. He served at Camp Beauregard, at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Armored Force School, where he received his certificate as Radio Technician, and Camp Campbell, Kentucky. From New York City he embarked March 31, 1943, for the European Theater and served in North Africa, fighting with Company A81st Armored Recon Bn, 5th Armored Division until his death February 20, 1944, in the European Theater. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal (PHM), presented to his family May 17, 1944, and had the European African Middle Eastern Theatre (ETO) Ribbon with one bronze star for the Invasion of North Africa. He is also the brother of Lieutenant MORRIS WADE STONECIPHER, Staff Sergeant WILLIAM EARL STONECIPHERPrivate REILLY BUTHAY STONECIPHER, Staff Sergeant DARNELL Evon STONECIPHER, and Shipfitter, Second Class R. L. STONECIPHER.
