Staff Sergeant DARNELL Evon STONECIPHER 38652663, US Army Airborne. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Clawson Stonecipher of Haynesville. He was born March 31, 1924, and attended Haynesville High School. He was engaged in farming prior to entering the Army in the Parachute Infantry on March 23, 1944, at the age of 19. He went from Camp Robinson, Arkansas, to the Parachute School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He embarked from Fort Ord, California, on October 27, 1944, for New Guinea. After training for jungle warfare in New Guinea he went into combat on Leyte, P. 1., on January 16, 1945, as a replacement (rifleman) in the 11th Airborne Division, 1st Platoon, Company C, 187th Para Glider Infantry Regiment. He was in combat also on Luzon (Tagatay Ridge, Nichols Field, Fort McKinley, Mount McColloud), Okinawa, and Japan (Atsugi Airstrip August 30, 1945). He has the Philippine Liberation Ribbon (two stars), Asiatic Pacific Theater (PTO) Ribbon (two stars), Distinguished Unit Badge (PUC), Victory and Good Conduct Medals, and Army of Occupation Badge, and was honorably discharged May 5, 1946, at Fort Sam Houston. He is also the brother of Lieutenant MORRIS WADE STONECIPHER, Staff Sergeant WILLIAM EARL STONECIPHER, Private REILLY BUTHAY STONECIPHER, SF2/C R. L. STONECIPHER, and Shipfitter, Second Class R. L. STONECIPHER.
