Seaman 2nd Class WILLIAM WEBB SMITH

Seaman 2nd Class WILLIAM WEBB SMITH US Navy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Smith of 2130 East Napoleon, Sulphur, Louisiana. Brother of Boatswain’s Mate, First Class EARNEST WADE SMITH. He was born on December 9, 1924, and attended the Bossier Grade School and Bossier High School. Upon graduation he worked as a machinist with the Cities Service Refining Corp. at Lake Charles, Louisiana. William entered the Navy in November, 1941, in New Orleans Louisiana at the age of 16. He was assigned to the Naval Training Center at San Diego, California, for boot training. He received a medical discharge from the Navy on February 18, 1942, at San Diego, California, and then entered the Merchant Marine where he worked up to the rating of Fireman, Oiler and Water Tender. He is the husband of Margie M. Smith and the father of Doris Ann.
