Fireman Second Class CHARLES WYATT SIMPSON MIA KIA

Fireman Second Class CHARLES WYATT SIMPSON MIA KIA, U. S. Navy. He is the son of Mrs. Myra Price Simpson, Georgetown, Louisiana. He was born December 4, 1921, and attended Georgetown Junior High School. Inducted September 12, 1940, at the age of 18. He received his boot training at the Naval Training Station, San Diego, California. In November, 1940, he embarked for the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Tucker, and he was serving on this ship at Pearl Harbor when the enemy attack December 7, 1941, took place. He served throughout the South Pacific (PTO) on convoy duty until the USS Tucker struck an enemy mine and sank near Malo Island in New Hebrides, August 2, 1942, at the age of 20. The Purple Heart Medal (PHM) was awarded posthumously May 20, 1944.
