2nd Lt. Farid Simaika O-573371 Aka فريد سميكة‎ Army Air Corps. Farid was born on June 12, 1907, in Egypt. He competed for Egypt at the 1928 Summer Olympics Simaika won the silver medal at platform high diving and the bronze medal at the 3-meter springboard. Simaika's silver medal was controversial, as the judges first announced Simaika the winner, with the Desjardins coming second. While the band played the Egyptian national anthem, it was discovered that Desjardins won the contest. Simaika married Mabel C Vanden Akker on February 13, 1929, in Los Angeles, California. He then married Betty Jane Wilson and they had one child together. In 1940 he was 5 foot 7 inches tall weighed 155 pounds had brown hair and brow eyes. In March 1942 Simaika received American citizenship, and on August 3, 1942 enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He served in SQUADRON IV FLIGHT 16 of HEADQUARTERS AIR INTELLIGENCE SCHOOL Army Air Forces Technical Training Command Harrisburg, Pennsylvania EIGHTH COMBAT INTELLIGENCE COURSE (Second Phase). Simaika training at Lowry Field in Colorado as an assistant intelligence officer of a bombardment group preparing for overseas action. He latter served in 530th Bomber Squadron, 380th Bomber Group, Heavy. He went missing on September 11, 1943 over Makassar, Indonesia at the age of 36. He was declared dead on December 19, 1945.
