Ensign HELEN MARY ROEHLER 176119 US Navy Nurse Corps KIA. She was born July 10, 1918 in Martin County Minnesota, the daughter of Mrs. Carrie J. Roemer, and Mr. Wm. L. Roehler. She lived at 514 East 2nd Street Fairmont, Minnesota. She entered the US navy in July 1942 at the age of 24. She trained at U. S. Naval Hospital, Corona, California, from July 1942 to August l, 1943. She went overseas on August 1, 1943. She served in the Pacific Theater of Operations at Duich Harbor Alaska. She was Killed in an Airplane Crash in Aleutian Area on April 23, 1944, at the age of 25. Lt. Lucille Hendricks,  and Ensign Ruby Toquam died along side Roehler in this airplane crash. Ensign Roehler served in the US navy for 21 months and earned the Red Cross Medal, Pacific Theater of Operations Medal (PTO) American Theater Medal and the World War Two Victory Medal.
