Chief Machinist’s Mate Clarence A. Pfertsh
Chief Machinist’s Mate Clarence A. Pfertsh US Navy. Born 12 August 1917 in Welby, Colorado. Attended school in Welby and entered service on 24 February 1942, at the age of 24. Trained at San Diego, California, and served in the Pacific Area aboard the USS CUMMINGS (DD-365). Attached to DD Division 4, he served in the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th Fleets, and Task Force 58, and fought in campaigns from Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima. Honorably discharged 25 October 1945, he holds the American Theater, Asiatic Pacific (PTO) with 8 Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation, Good Conduct, and Victory Medal. He is the son of George and Mary Ann Pfertsch of Denver.
