Radioman First Class ARCHIE Philip PARKS 3564521 KIA US Navy. He was born on February 21, 1923. He was the son of Aaron Theodore Parks and Pearl Lee Doffern Parks of Box 207, Goree, Texas. He entered the US Navy on December 26, 1940, in Dallas Texas. He trained in San Diego, California. He served in Pacific Theatre he went overseas on July 11, 1941. Before the out brake of the war he served on the USS Nevada BB-36 and during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served on it until he transferred onto the USS Phoenix CL-46 on December 11,1941, and served on it for more than a year. He then served on the USS Mizar AF-12. On January 4, 1944 he transferred onto the USS Johnston DD-557. He served on the USS Johnston until the battle of Leyte Gulf when he was Killed in Action, on October 25, 1944 at the age of 21 when his ship was sunk. The USS Johnston’s complement of 327 officers and men, only 141 were survived. Of the 186 men lost, about 50 were killed by enemy action, 45 died later on rafts from wounds, and 92 men including Cmdr. Evans got off before the USS Johnston sank, but were never seen again. Radioman First Class ARCHIE Philip PARKS was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Medal, The Pacific campaign medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.
