Patternmaker Second Class PETE PAUL PAPA

Patternmaker Second Class PETE PAUL PAPA, U. S. Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Papa, 1105 Fannin Street, Shreveport Louisiana. He was born August 23, 1922, and attended Allendale School, Fair Park High School and Centenary College prior to his enlistment June 24, 1942, in the U. S. Navy, at the age of 19. From the Naval Receiving Station, New Orleans, he went to the United States Naval Training Station, San Diego, and the U. S. Naval Hospital, Pudget Sound, Bremerton, Washington. From the Naval Training School, Farragut, Idaho, he went to Landing Craft School and the Amphibious Training Base, Coronado, California. From November 11, 1943, to September 1, 1944, he served his country in foreign waters and again May 13, 1945, to January 9, 1946. In the Asiatic Pacific Theater (PTO), he was attached to Mobile Hospital Unit No. 10, Banika, in the Russells (Solomon Islands). He was assigned to the USS Wharton APA 7, then to Fleet Hospital No. 103, Guam. He was assigned to Navy Receiving Ship No. 3256, then to Standard Landing Craft Unit No. 40. He fought in the invasion of Guam and received the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater (PTO) Medal with one star, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged at New Orleans January 22, 1946.
