Private First Class A. L. NORMAN

Private First Class A. L. NORMAN, U. S. Army. He is the husband of Maude Carter Norman, of Homer, and son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Norman of Fryeburg. He was born August 8, 1907, and was in construction work prior to entering the Army of the United States November 19, 1942, in Shreveport, at the age of 25. He trained at Camp Howze, Texas, and at Camp Claiborne and embarked September 20, 1944, for the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations (ETO). He served in Scotland, Holland, Belgium, and Germany as a utility repairman and in the construction of bridges for the infantry advance in combat, frequently under enemy fire, with Company A, 309th Engineer (Combat) Battalion. He fought in the campaigns of the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe, and has the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three bronze campaign stars. He also has World War Two Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater of Operations Ribbon, and other badges. He served in military government and in the Army of Occupation with the 84th Infantry Division in Weinheim Baden, Germany, in July, 1945. Returning to the States, he received his honorable discharge October 6, 1945, at Camp Shelby.
